Kids at Grand Union Village (GUV) experienced a half term treat this weekend with the official opening of a brand new play area in the village. Over 30 children from GUV attended the ceremony on Saturday morning and even got their hands dirty by helping to plant new shrubs donated by the village’s landscapers, Redlands.
A range of play equipment is now available for children from ages 1 – 12 years, including children with special needs, providing a varied, challenging and safe environment in which to have fun.
Keith Lamey, Taylor Woodrow’s director of planning said: “The new play area marks the beginning of a much wider scheme to ensure that young people at GUV have somewhere safe to play and meet their friends. Recreational facilities are a key part of any community and we are delighted to be providing facilities where children can learn new skills and build their confidence through a range of interactive equipment.”
The new play area is part of a £250,000 scheme, supported by Taylor Woodrow, to provide play equipment throughout the village in the form of local areas of play (LAPs) and local extended areas of play (LEAPs) that comply with National Playing Fields Association standards. Situated in the heart of the village, close to family homes in the Crescent, the play area will include a range of equipment supplied by Kompan to promote climbing, balancing, experimenting, training, pretending and spinning.
This latest resource complements the existing choice of community facilities already available at GUV. These include a wide range of facilities providing activities for all residents, and are situated near the canal basin. In addition to the recently opened nursery, they include a large multi-purpose room for recreational purposes that can be divided into two smaller rooms. There are training and meeting rooms and a room for either one off events or regular meetings such as yoga classes and mother and toddler groups. There are bar and toilet facilities, wheelchair access and buggy storage.
